Last night on @SkyNews, I shared some thoughts on homelessness being a "lifestyle choice", as someone who has experienced it. I know this government is exhausting and infuriating, but we simply must keep standing our ground and making our arguments, with patience and logic.

It’s essentially an extension of seeing public service as a corporate career, where the game is “how quickly can I be promoted”, and the question “in what capacity might I do some good” does not even feature in the equation of ambition and ego.

The broader point is that this is what happens when someone pampered, with no relevant skills, is bequeathed a safe seat, and sails to the top with scant experience (Sunak went from bag carrier to PM in four years), never having been rigorously scrutinised or electorally tested.
When they’re laughing at you in politics, it’s over, or at least it should be.

One of the biggest absurdities of Rishi Sunak's bout of Greek-bashing is that Kyriakos Mitsotakis is probably the most Anglophile Greek Prime Minister in the last fifty years.

I see a lot of tweeps are having THAT sort of evening again. Isn't it interesting how this place seems to get prickly in waves?

Incredible by minister Mark Spencer to @SophyRidgeSky. "It was a mistake by the Greek PM, BUT WE ARE BIG ENOUGH and will continue to work with our friends in Greece." This rancid attitude is emblematic of why UK recently often finds itself the Johnny No-Mates of global affairs.

What an arrogant fkn gasbag. He's like a comedy Tory in a 70s Monty Python sketch. Surely, we have left this faux-colonial arsefudge in the past. He can't possibly express the views of anyone, but the most parochial, over-60s, port-addled brains.

Go for it, if you think the claim is reasonable. Why not? Museums refreshing their collections would be marvellous.
Right, so are we giving back everything in the British museum that doesn't originate in Britain? What is the principle here? Do we demand back Charles I's art collection from the Louvre and the Prado?

If your point of principle can survive without any factual backing, why make up the factual backing? What is the grand philosophical point of principle, here, then? Finders, Keepers, Losers, Weepers?

Yeah, UNESCO, stop being so utopian post-war progressive liberals. <shakes fist at progress>
And, the Greeks were burning them to release the lime when Elgin was given permission to remove them. That a utopian post-war progressive liberal desire to return the Marbles is backed by a utopian post-war progressive liberal institution is no great shock.

1. Elgin never got permission to remove anything - only to catalogue and make casts. 2. The old canard about Greeks burning the marbles is *according to Elgin* (even then second-hand from a Turkish occupier), and is belied by what he didn’t take miraculously surviving us brutes.
Before Elgin got permission to remove the Marbles, the local Greeks were burning them to extract the lime. If we return everything that is of "deep cultural significance" you create an incentive for people to discover "deep cultural significance" in all sorts of things.

Worth pointing out that Cummings didn't suggest Sunak spoke those words - just that it expressed his position, that it was his view. It will be interesting to see counsel press him on this, as they surely will. ~AA #PMQs
Tulip Siddiq: "just let people die & that's okay"... this was the PM's view on covid in late 2020 as recorded by Patrick Vallance... so how did people get the impression that the PM was okay with people dying? Rishi Sunak: I didn't say that #PMQs

Had this been a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it.
Starmer: He said he'd get NHS waiting list down. It's gone up. Unabashed he turned to cutting immigration. It's gone up. Next he turned to cutting taxes. Tax burden is higher. Ironic that he's taken an interest in Greek culture. He's the man with the Reverse Midas Touch.~AA #PMQs

Sunak attacks Starmer for "supporting the EU instead of his country". Starmer picks him up on it and drops him from a great height: "Is he now saying that meeting the Greek PM is supporting the EU? Rather than deal with facts he's prosecuting a one-man war on reality." ~AA #PMQs

That change of expression by Sunak in the final frames. He absolutely knows this was a giant unforced error and looks like he is about to cry.
💥HORRIBLE moment for Sunak at #PMQs. Starmer: "I met with the Greek PM, we talked about the economy, security, immigration. I also told him we won't be changing the law regarding the marbles. It's really not that difficult." Look at Sunak's expression at the end. Beaten. ~AA

Starmer says that, to distract from his problems “the Prime Minister spent the last few days talking about a relic that only a small minority of the British public care about - but that’s enough about the Tory Party.” Baddum-tish. ~AA #PMQs
