Looms were the precursor to computers. Textile history matters.
The Dobby loom was a gamechanger for mechanical production! It used holes in cards, or pegs, which told the device when to raise or lower the threads.
This meant that weaving became faster and cheaper, because it reduced the labour it needed from slow and expensive humans.

In Alan Davie's work To A Celtic Spirit and Dovecot tapestry interpretation, we see symbols spanning times and cultures. For example, the little 'mounds' in this tapestry sample derive from ancient gravestones in northern France.
