People are platforming Maggie because it's easier to platform Maggie than to wrestle with the complicity mainstream media has in creating Donald Trump and giving aid and comfort to his white wing movement.

Big Tech dumps cash into propaganda campaigns like @americanedge to defend their antidemocratic behavior. This, instead of doing the real work with regulators & civil society to produce a system that rewards fair competition, local journalism, real data privacy - & benefits all.

And more good analysis of this specific issue here:
I wrote about the morally incurious, vapid, evergreen, police stenography of “fare evasion” stories and how this twist on “welfare fraud” reportage pressures electeds into further criminalizing poverty. thecolumn.substack.com/p/the…

Rewrite the stylesheets!
My piece in @Just_Security only has an impact if it changes the stylesheets of the media and others talking about this. I don't normally ask this, but please retweet and gently implore your media friends to get their act together. Let's make repeating Putin's lies cringeworthy!

Saying #Russia “annexed” part of #Ukraine, in a non-trivial way, aids Putin's wrongful act, Prof @JensIverson explains. Regardless of domestic legal performances in Moscow, these areas remain “illegally occupied Ukrainian territory.” #RussiaUkraineWar justsecurity.org/83365/stop-…

If the building is on fire, you need to raise your voice. You need to convey the urgency and the threat. So you shout. You don’t stop until everyone understands the danger. And you don’t give equal time to the arsonist. presswatchers.org/2022/10/th…

I’ll never forget when the @nypost sent me to Penn Station to ask NYers their thoughts on fare evaders. Not one person cared. After I sent my notes to the rewrite desk, I got an angry call from an editor: “That’s not what we wanted.” The reporting didn’t fit their narrative.
We’ve been watching @wmata fare evaders ALL MORNING. Our camera isn’t hidden and people are blatantly hopping turnstiles live on air. Metro estimates $40 million in lost revenue. @7NewsDC

What is taking place is a systematic effort to distort the image of Palestinian journalists as being incapable of trustworthiness and integrity, simply because we cover the human rights violations that the Palestinian people undergo on a daily basis at hands of the Israeli army

My fave part: Trump’s businesses should be covered by business reporters, his legal issues by legal reporters. Instead, both are covered by political reporters through the political lens.

Indeed journalism plain talk is dead, which is weird because while people online are willing to call a spade a spade, journalists mostly only throw soft-balls at bad people to court an interview. It doesn’t help that Faux News, Newsmax, etc., canonize known cons like Trump.
