Today I requested MRI of the brain on a patient with mild neuro symptoms. One could say that it was an overkill, but I say: I want to be thorough! Why should I save money for the insurance company when they don't care about the patient or #PatientCare?! #neurotwitter

There are more similarities than differences between #LongCovid and all other post-viral syndromes pre-Covid.
I'm seeing people argue, "post-viral conditions have always existed, LC is nothing new." No. The conflation of LC as a postviral syndrome, with ME/CFS is incorrect They have distinct pathophysiology LC is missing naive T and B cells, ME/CFS has more naive t cells

Pre-#Covid pandemic, those of us who treat patients with #dysautonomia felt that autonomic disorders should be taught in medical schools and residency. Sadly, it took a #pandemic for others to get on board with us.

Autonomic dysfunction is a major component of #LongCovid, #MS, #MECFS and post-infectious syndromes. When we figure out how/why autonomic dysfunction develops and how to effectively treat it, then we'll get a key to proper diagnosis and management of these conditions.
Had an MRI & bloods taken today as part of a #LongCovid study at a centre normally specialising in Multiple Sclerosis research. One of the researchers remarked on how much overlap there is between Long Covid & Multiple Sclerosis symptoms. Much to be learnt from similar conditions

Outside may not be as safe as we want it to be... 😷😷😷#MaskUp #CovidIsNotOver
Overwhelming evidence of outdoor transmission of Omicron. At least 32 unmasked people were infected by a man jogging through a park without a mask. Nothing beats a surveillance state for contact tracing. Details in the thread. covid.dropcite.com/articles/…

Would like to see a study on aspirin, Plavix and dypiridamole for #LongCovid patients. Hopefully, it won't take many years or too much money to complete this study with these fairly cheap meds. #research #CovidIsntOver #antiplatelets #TeamClots
“The results of the UK-wide trial.. found that prescribing anticoagulant Apixaban did not help patients recovering from moderate & severe Covid.. 29% of people given the drug ended up back in hospital or died, compared with 30.8% receiving standard care.” ft.com/content/db1e6c05-b8bb…

Never judge a book by its cover... #chronicillness can be very unpredictable. Feel better, @SummerDashe! 💞
🧵: I had a really nice, uplifting video I’d been editing just for today. I wanted to post it to mark one year since I anchored my last show on @6News. 1/13 #POTS #EDS #ChronicIllness

Love @StephenKing, but he doesn't know Russian women, many of whom sadly support the current dictator and his genocidal tendencies.
If a woman was in charge of Russia instead of the testosterone-fueled current leader, the war in Ukraine would be over by New Years Day and we could all breathe a little easier.

Interesting thread on the risks of #COVID19 from a Thanksgiving dinner. Personally, I think the chances of getting #LongCovid are much higher than 4% if you're a female between ages 20-60 and if you have pre-existing conditions, such as asthma, allergies, migraine and others.
Replying to @Bob_Wachter
... symptomatic Long Covid if I got Covid. Multiplying that 4% chance by the 1 in 60 odds of getting Covid from the dinner yields a 1 in 1500 chance of getting LC from the dinner, and a non-zero long-term increase in odds of other bad stuff like heart attack and diabetes.(19/25)

If you look at various studies, including the early ones from 2020, you see that a history of allergies was a frequent occurrence in people with persistent symptoms.

As an immigrant, I too am grateful for everything that USA gave me and millions of other refugees! My thoughts are with #Ukraine, its people, armed forces and medical personnel working on the front lines. I always think about them while doing #telehealth to Ukraine! 🇺🇸🇺🇦🙏🦃
Thankful today for my family, for our finding a home in amazing, resilient America, for everyone out there fighting for liberty in ways big and small. If you are feasting today, count your blessings and spare a thought for those without, in darkness and cold. 🙏🦃🇺🇸🇺🇦

Evidence that #POTS has proinflammatory, hypercoagulable & hyperadrenergic basis. This is relevant to #LongCovid, #EDS/#Dysautonomia/#MCAS triad and likely all post-infectious syndromes. It's not "all in your head," but the brain is most likely involved. link.springer.com/article/10…
Important new #POTS research from Karolinska Inst. funded by Dysautonomia International has found biomarkers associated with a hypercoagulable & proinflammatory state, enhanced cardiac contractility & hypertrophy, skeletal muscle deficits, cartilage protein deficits & more. 1/🧵

#IBS is a common comorbidity in #POTS and #LongCoid. Related, we showed that a gluten-free diet is beneficial for patients with #POTS via improved orthostatic intolerance and GI symptoms. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.…
A FODMAP-lowering diet was moderately more effective than antispasmodic medication for improving symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome in a primary care–based trial. jwat.ch/3G5buOf #FODMAP

Sad that once good physicians enter politics, science goes out of the window! Not one word about indoor #masking! Educating the public and promoting the use of N95 masks in public places is what we expect from CDC and all physicians serving in government! #MaskUp #MasksWork 😷
Seeing a lot of headlines predicting what COVID will be like this winter My take? It depends largely on us COVID is still killing 300 people a day And this year, even more folks will be gathering with family and friends So can we really gather safely? Yup. Absolutely 🧵
