Today, our nation says farewell to First Lady Rosalynn Carter. In Plains and around the globe, she changed the lives of millions. She was a vocal humanitarian, loving partner, supportive mother, and cool grandma. We are grateful for her life and send our prayers to the Carters.

There is an intentional, full-on attack on hard-won and hard-fought freedoms across the nation. Texas is — in many ways — ground zero. Yesterday, I joined the @HispanicCaucus in Houston to make clear: @POTUS and I will continue to fight back.

Doug and I join President Biden, the First Lady, and Americans across the country in praying for the full recovery of the three Palestinian students who were shot in Burlington, Vermont as they traveled to one of their grandmother’s homes during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. We send our deepest sympathies to their families and to all those who have been impacted by this senseless violence. While the facts of this tragedy are still being investigated, we know that far too many people live with the fear that they could be targeted and attacked based on their beliefs or who they are. We are grateful for the work of law enforcement and will continue to do all that we can to keep our communities safe from both hate and gun violence.

Texas has a total abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. Doctors and nurses risk going to jail for simply doing their jobs. This is immoral. To the women of Texas: You are not alone. @POTUS and I are fighting alongside you for reproductive freedom.

It was wonderful to visit Venice Bakery & Restaurant on Small Business Saturday as we honor the work that small business owners and employees are doing across the nation to grow our economy and support our communities. When we invest in small businesses, we invest in America.

The current pause in fighting in Gaza is critically important to get hostages out and humanitarian assistance in — and that’s what we’re focused on. As @POTUS said, we will remain engaged to ensure this deal is fully implemented and will work to extend it.

Today, Doug and I are grateful 4-year-old American Abigail Edan was released by Hamas and is back in Israel. @POTUS and I will keep working with our partners in the region to secure the release of all the hostages.

Doug and I enjoyed celebrating Small Business Saturday by visiting family- and Latino-owned Venice Bakery & Restaurant with @SBAIsabel and @RepTedLieu. Thank you to Edith, Orlando, and their entire team for the warm welcome and delicious chilaquiles.

Yesterday, Doug and I spoke with members of our Armed Forces and thanked them for their service. They spent Thanksgiving away from their family, and their sacrifice — as well as the sacrifice of their loved ones — makes our nation safer and more secure.

On Native American Heritage Day, we celebrate the history and contributions of Native people. We have a duty to preserve Tribal sovereignty, support self-determination, and uphold our Tribal trust and treaty responsibilities.

We are forever indebted to the brave members of our Armed Forces. Their service and sacrifice make our nation safer and stronger. It was Doug's and my honor to spend time speaking with them today on Thanksgiving.
