It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since we lost Madeleine Albright. There’s not a day that goes by that I don't think about her, that I don’t miss her.
She was a role model to me and so many women around the world. And she left an indelible mark on our country and the world.
Global water security is essential to advancing gender equity.
To tackling climate change.
To supporting economic growth.
To advancing the SDGs.
To bolstering health and food security.
To decreasing the risk of conflict or instability around the world.
#WorldWaterDay
The Anti-Homosexuality Act passed by the Ugandan Parliament yesterday would undermine fundamental human rights of all Ugandans and could reverse gains in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We urge the Ugandan Government to strongly reconsider the implementation of this legislation.
Proud to stand with some of the incredible women leaders representing the United States at the #UN2023WaterConference.
Together, we are working to ensure every single person in every single country has access to safe water and sanitation services.
Today, on #WorldWaterDay, I’m proud to announce that the United States is committing more than $49 billion to advance equitable, climate-resilient water and sanitation service access at home and abroad.
Thank you, @RepCicilline and @RepRitchie, for joining us yesterday for the second-ever LGBTI-specific Arria at the United Nations.
Your leadership as Co-Chairs of the Congressional Equality Caucus sends a strong message to our partners at the UN.
“All human beings,” reads the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”
On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, let us commit to making these rights real for everyone, regardless of race or ethnicity.

Today, I was proud to announce four specific steps the U.S. will take to better integrate LGBTQI+ concerns into the UN Security Council’s daily work.
⬇️⬇️⬇️
1: We commit to regularly review the situation of LGBTQI+ individuals in conflicts on the Council’s agenda.
That includes regularly soliciting information from LGBTQI+ human rights defenders.
2: We commit to encouraging the UN Secretariat and other UN officials to integrate LGBTQI+ concerns and perspectives in their regular reports to the Council.
4: We commit to proposing, when appropriate, language in Security Council products responding to the situation of LGBTQI+ individuals.
This includes language in the Council’s work on implementing United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2475.
Today was a historic day at the United Nations.
– The first time the UN Independent Expert on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity briefed the Security Council
– The second-ever LGBTI-specific Arria
We must defend the universal human rights of all LGBTQI+ people.
