I remember Lawrenson commentating in the 2006 WC. He spent every Brazil game basically fat shaming Ronaldo (R9), despite everyone else just being delighted to see one of the all-time greats playing in another tournament. Good riddance.

His predictions were always very predictable. 1970 Brazil 2 - 0 Tim Sherwood era Aston Villa I expect Pele, Jarizinho and Revelino to have a bot too much quality for the Midlands strugglers.

Nearly always predicted Villa would lose, even when we weren't dreadful

“I thought I was entitled to a job for life no matter how I performed in the job!” is a very white 65-year-old male take tbf.

The real question here is how @MTLawrenson ever got a job as a pundit in the first place. Absolutely the right decision but taken 30 years' too late for the viewing public

Are you sure it’s not because he was ridiculously biased towards Liverpool and also really, really boring?

Taking bets on how many say that's not why he was sacked, versus those claiming race based firing is perfectly appropriate.

O yeah that is the reason.
