It also then connects you to choice - how will you manage your limited energies? Our society has inculcated the myth of ‘you can do anything you want’ out of misplaced good intentions - you have one life. Choose wisely and choose kindness.
Once you realise you can’t change the world entire; that you can only do what you can amongst others; that you do it because it’s right, not from crazed expectation of impact and your own might - that feels like a shift to being more human, paradoxically perhaps more effective,

One day I will write The Black Book - tell the truth about those people, bullies, cowards, narcissists, who scarred my work-life and been nasty as hell. I’ll need a good lawyer. It would be instructive to those who want to change things. More truth than a thousand infographics.

I am not who I was: I feel I’ve been rubbed raw by cognitive, neuro-physiological and sensory-visual-perceptual pain. This feels like a total rebuild. And at 61 is also about facing decline and mortally - moving beyond ego if one can.

We are so steeped in utilitarian ethics that this is a hard shift to maintain. To have the humility to accept that we can’t make things right but we can care. To often in our believe that we are ‘right’ we lose sight of care. Perhaps? 2/2

Replying to @DavidGilbert43
It’s the shift from an ethic of utilitarianism (I do stuff to get results) to an ethic of care (I do stuff because it is the most caring thing I can do) perhaps? Consequentialist ethics have led us to believe that we should be able to sort it all out if we are smart enough. 1/2

I went to an extraordinary exhibition & documentary “What Would You Take?” - portraits of displaced Ukrainians & one of the things they took with them when they had to leave. These include - horse, a dog, a violin, & a set of embroidery thread. 💙💛 europarl.europa.eu/unitedkin…

Would anyone like a writer/poet in residence - perhaps in a health care setting? Or gallery or museum? Or…?

Why does breathing fully feel risky?

I’ve been ‘driven’ by passion, amongst other things. And that’s OK. But it’s driven me into a wall. I need to drive and steer the old car a bit more carefully.

I am grateful that I can close my eyes this evening and not feel mental pain. Those who’ve been through such stuff know what I mean. Nothing else matters, save for your children to be safe. May this tentative peace be sustainable.

Thread. And thank-you to those that care and love and are kind. Continue please. The rest, I care little about until you are.
For those that care: whilst in dorset this week, I’ve def found some peace - overall the ratiocinations calming in volume & one or two moments when I felt I was ‘back’. Though it feels like I may emerge as a very different person, being ‘back’ will feel unfamiliar I think 1/5

That’s a check list for all patients every hour of every day. Pain. All the time. And for every carer. You may have it bad - I’m sure you do. But those who are ill have it worse. It’s not a competition but worth a thought.
Dear 🇬🇧, Just finished a night shift in A&E and feeling wrecked. If you have a job that has a "going home checklist" like this, you deserve better pay and conditions. Full stop. #SOSNHS
